Calne Church

Calne Church in Wiltshire has many churches for distinctive religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is regular for a town to have more than one church and Calne is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been falling for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the population presiding at least once every month, notwithstanding Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the population.

We think the reason for the decline is in basic terms that people don't believe in God any more, with wars raging across the planet and the economy in a bad way it's straightforward to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches represent in our Calne community then it's really astounding figures are going down. Surely we all want our Calne to be a splendid spot to live, where persons get along, they assist each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Calne church and demand change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wishes to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, impoverished and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, numerous people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-gay words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet position to be - a good place to cogitate on the things that are going on in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a diversion that can keep children pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
