Biddestone Church

Biddestone Church in Wiltshire has a lot of churches for separate religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Biddestone is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been dipping for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the populace attending at least once per month, still Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the rationale for the decline is simply that people do not have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it's easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you think on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Biddestone community then it's actually surprising figures are going down. Surely we all want our Biddestone to be a fantastic spot to dwell, where inhabitants get along, they help one another in times of hardship and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Biddestone church and plea for change, you want to assist, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody desires to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, lowly and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, countless people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently walked out after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-homosexual words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful position to be - a good space to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest gravestone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a game that can keep kids pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
