Castleford Church

Castleford Church in West Yorkshire has several churches for various religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Castleford is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been sinking for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace attending at least once per month, in spite of everything Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the populace.

We think the rationale for the decline is in simple terms that people don't believe in God any more, with violence raging across the Earth and the economy in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Castleford community then it is actually surprising numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Castleford to be a good spot to inhabit, where persons get along, they help each other in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Castleford church and plea for change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wishes to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as local schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, countless people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times walked out after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, considering his anti-gay words in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful place to be - a good place to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep children amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the cemetery.
