Sompting Church

Sompting Church in West Sussex has a lot of churches for assorted religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Sompting is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been dropping for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once per month, however Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the populace.

We think the reason for the decline is just that people don't have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the Earth and the economy in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the fundamental values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you think on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Sompting community then it is truly astonishing numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Sompting to be a great place to be alive, where persons get along, they help each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Sompting church and pressure for change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because hardly a soul wishes to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as regional schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, scores of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently quit after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, taking into account his anti-homosexual rhetoric in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet space to be - a good spot to cogitate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a game that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the cemetery.
