Bathgate Church

Bathgate Church in West Lothian has many churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is regular for a town to have more than one church and Bathgate is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been sinking for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once per month, notwithstanding Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the residents.

We think the reason for the decline is in basic terms that people don't have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the planet and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it's easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Bathgate community then it's truly astonishing numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Bathgate to be a wonderful place to live, where persons get along, they assist one another in times of need and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Bathgate church and demand change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly a soul desires to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as native schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, feeble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, various people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-gay language in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful space to be - a good place to reflect on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep children amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
