Jesmond Church

Jesmond Church in Tyne and Wear has a lot of churches for assorted religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Jesmond is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been sinking for the last fifty years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace attending at least once per month, in spite of everything Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the cause for the decline is just that people do not believe in God any more, with wars raging across the planet and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you think on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Jesmond community then it's really startling figures are going down. Surely we all want our Jesmond to be a fantastic spot to inhabit, where persons get along, they assist each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Jesmond church and pressure for change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody desires to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as resident schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, poor and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, a lot of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-homosexual rhetoric in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet position to be - a good spot to contemplate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest headstone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a game that can keep kids amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
