Backworth Church

Backworth Church in Tyne and Wear has a lot of churches for assorted religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Backworth is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been tumbling for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace attending at least once per month, however Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the reason for the decline is simply that people don't believe in God any more, with wars raging across the planet and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Backworth community then it's really astounding numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Backworth to be a good place to dwell, where inhabitants get along, they assist one another in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Backworth church and demand change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly a soul desires to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, lowly and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, scores of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, considering his anti-homosexual speech-making in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful position to be - a good spot to ruminate on the things that are going on in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest headstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
