Helmsdale Church

Helmsdale Church in Sutherland has several churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Helmsdale is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been plummeting for the last fifty years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace attending at least once per month, notwithstanding Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the reason for the decline is just that people don't believe in God any more, with wars raging across the world and the economy in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches represent in our Helmsdale community then it is actually remarkable figures are going down. Surely we all want our Helmsdale to be a splendid spot to dwell, where people get along, they assist one another in times of need and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Helmsdale church and demand change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your neighborhood chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because nobody desires to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, humble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, countless people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, considering his anti-gay speech-making in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet position to be - a good spot to reflect on the things that are going on in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest gravestone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep kids pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the cemetery.
