Golspie Church

Golspie Church in Sutherland has many churches for various religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Golspie is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been sinking for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the populace attending at least once per month, still Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the rationale for the decline is in simple terms that people don't believe in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the economy in a bad way it is easy to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Golspie community then it is in reality shocking figures are going down. Surely we all want our Golspie to be a wonderful spot to live, where individuals get along, they assist each other in times of hardship and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Golspie church and demand change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wants to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as regional schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, scores of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, considering his anti-homosexual speech-making in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful spot to be - a good spot to reflect on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a game that can keep kids pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the graveyard.
