Lightwater Church

Lightwater Church in Surrey has several churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Lightwater is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been dropping for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once per month, however Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the residents.

We think the explanation for the decline is simply that people don't have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the Earth and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Lightwater community then it's really remarkable numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Lightwater to be a good location to live, where persons get along, they help one another in times of hardship and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Lightwater church and demand change, you want to assist, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly anybody wants to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, poor and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, many people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-gay words in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet space to be - a good space to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest headstone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the graveyard.
