Banstead Church

Banstead Church in Surrey has several churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Banstead is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been tumbling for the last fifty years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace attending at least once every month, nevertheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the reason for the decline is in basic terms that people don't have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the planet and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the fundamental values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you think on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Banstead community then it is really shocking numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Banstead to be a wonderful place to be alive, where people get along, they help one another in times of hardship and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Banstead church and make a request change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because hardly anybody wants to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, feeble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, a lot of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently quit after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-gay language in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet place to be - a good space to cogitate on the things that are going on in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest headstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep kids pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the graveyard.
