Alton Church

Alton Church in Staffordshire has many churches for assorted religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is regular for a town to have more than one church and Alton is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been dropping for the last fifty years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population attending at least once per month, however Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the population.

We think the grounds for the decline is simply that people don't believe in God any more, with violence raging across the planet and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the fundamental values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Alton community then it is in reality surprising numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Alton to be a splendid spot to dwell, where individuals get along, they help one another in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Alton church and demand change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wants to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as native schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, scores of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently walked out after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, in view of his anti-homosexual speech-making in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet position to be - a good place to reflect on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that is a game that can keep children amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the graveyard.
