Beckington Church

Beckington Church in Somerset has many churches for assorted religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Beckington is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been sinking for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once every month, notwithstanding Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the basis for the decline is just that people do not believe in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it's easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Beckington community then it's really amazing figures are going down. Surely we all want our Beckington to be a great spot to be alive, where individuals get along, they assist one another in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Beckington church and demand change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wants to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as resident schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, lowly and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, many people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, taking into account his anti-homosexual language in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful space to be - a good space to contemplate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a diversion that can keep children amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the graveyard.
