Oswestry Church

Oswestry Church in Shropshire has several churches for different religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Oswestry is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been sinking for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the population presiding at least once every month, still Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the explanation for the decline is in basic terms that people don't have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the planet and the economy in a bad way it's easy to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you contemplate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Oswestry community then it is in reality extraordinary figures are going down. Surely we all want our Oswestry to be a fantastic spot to dwell, where people get along, they assist each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Oswestry church and demand change, you want to help, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wants to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as local schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, lowly and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, various people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-homosexual words in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet spot to be - a good spot to reflect on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest gravestone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the graveyard.
