Gourock Church

Gourock Church in Renfrewshire has a lot of churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Gourock is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been dipping for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once every month, notwithstanding Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the basis for the decline is simply that people don't have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches represent in our Gourock community then it is actually surprising numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Gourock to be a fantastic spot to be alive, where persons get along, they assist one another in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Gourock church and pressure for change, you want to assist, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your neighborhood chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly a soul wants to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, poor and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, scores of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently walked out after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into account his anti-gay rhetoric in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet space to be - a good space to reflect on the things that are going on in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep kids amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
