Hay-on-Wye Church

Hay-on-Wye Church in Powys has several churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Hay-on-Wye is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been dropping for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population presiding at least once every month, nevertheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the populace.

We think the cause for the decline is simply that people do not have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it's straightforward to understand peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches represent in our Hay-on-Wye community then it's in reality shocking numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Hay-on-Wye to be a wonderful spot to live, where persons get along, they assist one another in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Hay-on-Wye church and pressure for change, you want to help, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your neighborhood chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly anybody desires to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as regional schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, countless people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-homosexual speech-making in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful space to be - a good space to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest gravestone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep children smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
