Settle Church

Settle Church in North Yorkshire has a lot of churches for different religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Settle is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been tumbling for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the populace attending at least once every month, nonetheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the basis for the decline is in basic terms that people do not believe in God any more, with wars raging across the world and the economy in a bad way it is straightforward to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Settle community then it's truly startling figures are going down. Surely we all want our Settle to be a splendid location to live, where individuals get along, they help each other in times of hardship and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Settle church and demand change, you want to assist, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wishes to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as regional schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, impoverished and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, numerous people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-gay words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful position to be - a good space to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest gravestone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep children smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the cemetery.
