Ripon Church

Ripon Church in North Yorkshire has numerous churches for assorted religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Ripon is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been tumbling for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the population attending at least once per month, still Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the explanation for the decline is in basic terms that people don't have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the Earth and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is straightforward to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches represent in our Ripon community then it is really remarkable figures are going down. Surely we all want our Ripon to be a good place to inhabit, where individuals get along, they help each other in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Ripon church and pressure for change, you want to assist, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your neighborhood chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody desires to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, feeble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, scores of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, in view of his anti-homosexual speech-making in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful spot to be - a good space to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep kids amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
