Pickering Church

Pickering Church in North Yorkshire has various churches for separate religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Pickering is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been dipping for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the population attending at least once per month, nevertheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the cause for the decline is just that people do not have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the economy in a bad way it's easy to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you contemplate on all the good things that Churches represent in our Pickering community then it's actually shocking figures are going down. Surely we all want our Pickering to be a splendid place to live, where persons get along, they help each other in times of need and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Pickering church and demand change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because hardly a soul desires to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, lowly and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, scores of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, considering his anti-homosexual speech-making in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet spot to be - a good spot to contemplate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep kids amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the graveyard.
