Dereham Church

Dereham Church in Norfolk has a lot of churches for separate religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Dereham is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been plummeting for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population presiding at least once every month, nevertheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the explanation for the decline is just that people do not have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches represent in our Dereham community then it's truly shocking numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Dereham to be a wonderful spot to inhabit, where individuals get along, they assist each other in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Dereham church and plea for change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly a soul desires to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as local schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, various people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times walked out after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, considering his anti-homosexual language in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet position to be - a good space to cogitate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that is a game that can keep children amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the graveyard.
