Oakham Church

Oakham Church in Leicestershire has numerous churches for separate religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Oakham is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been plummeting for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population attending at least once per month, still Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the grounds for the decline is just that people don't have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the planet and the economy in a bad way it's easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches represent in our Oakham community then it is truly extraordinary figures are going down. Surely we all want our Oakham to be a splendid location to be alive, where people get along, they help each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Oakham church and plea for change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because nobody wishes to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as local schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, feeble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, numerous people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently quit after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into account his anti-homosexual language in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful place to be - a good space to contemplate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
