Bacup Church

Bacup Church in Lancashire has a lot of churches for separate religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Bacup is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been tumbling for the last fifty years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population presiding at least once per month, in spite of everything Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the residents.

We think the rationale for the decline is in simple terms that people do not have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the Earth and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it's easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you think on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Bacup community then it is truly startling figures are going down. Surely we all want our Bacup to be a wonderful spot to inhabit, where inhabitants get along, they assist each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Bacup church and plea for change, you want to help, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody desires to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, many people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-gay words in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet spot to be - a good spot to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest headstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep children pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
