Strathaven Church

Strathaven Church in Lanarkshire has several churches for different religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is regular for a town to have more than one church and Strathaven is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been falling for the last fifty years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population attending at least once per month, nonetheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the rationale for the decline is in simple terms that people don't believe in God any more, with wars raging across the Earth and the economy in a bad way it's straightforward to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you contemplate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Strathaven community then it is in reality surprising numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Strathaven to be a wonderful place to be alive, where individuals get along, they help one another in times of hardship and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Strathaven church and pressure for change, you want to help, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly anybody desires to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as native schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, humble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, a lot of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently quit after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into account his anti-homosexual words in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet position to be - a good spot to cogitate on the things that are going on in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a diversion that can keep children pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
