Pocklington Church

Pocklington Church in Humberside has numerous churches for assorted religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Pocklington is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been plummeting for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once every month, still Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the populace.

We think the reason for the decline is in basic terms that people don't believe in God any more, with wars raging across the planet and the economy in a bad way it is straightforward to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches represent in our Pocklington community then it is in reality extraordinary numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Pocklington to be a splendid place to be alive, where individuals get along, they help one another in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Pocklington church and plea for change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly anybody desires to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, lowly and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, various people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-homosexual words in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet place to be - a good place to contemplate on the things that are going on in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest gravestone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep kids pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the cemetery.
