Usk Church

Usk Church in Gwent has several churches for different religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Usk is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been falling for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the populace attending at least once per month, in spite of everything Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the cause for the decline is simply that people do not have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the economy in a bad way it is straightforward to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Usk community then it's actually amazing figures are going down. Surely we all want our Usk to be a good place to live, where individuals get along, they assist one another in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Usk church and plea for change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly anybody wants to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as resident schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, poor and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, numerous people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-homosexual language in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful space to be - a good place to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that's a diversion that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the graveyard.
