Abertillery Church

Abertillery Church in Gwent has numerous churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Abertillery is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been plummeting for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once per month, in spite of everything Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the population.

We think the grounds for the decline is just that people do not believe in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the economy in a bad way it's easy to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Abertillery community then it is truly astonishing numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Abertillery to be a great location to inhabit, where people get along, they help one another in times of need and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Abertillery church and demand change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your neighborhood chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because hardly anybody wants to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as resident schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, a lot of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into account his anti-homosexual speech-making in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet place to be - a good spot to contemplate on the things that are going on in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a game that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
