Tooting Church

Tooting Church in Greater London has numerous churches for different religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Tooting is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been plummeting for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population attending at least once per month, nonetheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the population.

We think the basis for the decline is just that people don't have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the Earth and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you think on all the good things that Churches represent in our Tooting community then it's in reality surprising numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Tooting to be a wonderful spot to live, where inhabitants get along, they help each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Tooting church and plea for change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wishes to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, lowly and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, a lot of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently quit after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-homosexual rhetoric in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet space to be - a good place to cogitate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep children amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
