Saffron Walden Church

Saffron Walden Church in Essex has numerous churches for separate religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is regular for a town to have more than one church and Saffron Walden is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been sinking for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the population attending at least once per month, still Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the residents.

We think the rationale for the decline is simply that people do not believe in God any more, with wars raging across the world and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you contemplate on all the good things that Churches represent in our Saffron Walden community then it's really astonishing numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Saffron Walden to be a good place to be alive, where individuals get along, they help each other in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Saffron Walden church and make a request change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wishes to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, feeble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, many people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into account his anti-gay words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet position to be - a good place to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep children smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the cemetery.
