Canvey Island Church

Canvey Island Church in Essex has several churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Canvey Island is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been plummeting for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the population attending at least once every month, however Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the rationale for the decline is just that people don't have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the planet and the economy in a bad way it's easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches represent in our Canvey Island community then it's actually startling numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Canvey Island to be a great spot to inhabit, where individuals get along, they help one another in times of hardship and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Canvey Island church and make a request change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your neighborhood chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because nobody wants to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, feeble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, numerous people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently walked out after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-gay rhetoric in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful spot to be - a good spot to ruminate on the things that are going on in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest gravestone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep kids amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
