Tavistock Church

Tavistock Church in Devon has various churches for distinctive religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Tavistock is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been falling for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the populace attending at least once every month, nonetheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the residents.

We think the explanation for the decline is in simple terms that people don't believe in God any more, with violence raging across the Earth and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is straightforward to understand peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the fundamental values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches represent in our Tavistock community then it is truly remarkable numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Tavistock to be a great place to inhabit, where persons get along, they assist one another in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Tavistock church and demand change, you want to assist, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wants to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as native schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, feeble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, loads of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently walked out after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into account his anti-gay words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful position to be - a good space to cogitate on the things that are going on in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep kids amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
