Sidmouth Church

Sidmouth Church in Devon has various churches for different religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is regular for a town to have more than one church and Sidmouth is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been sinking for the last fifty years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace attending at least once every month, nonetheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the residents.

We think the cause for the decline is just that people don't have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the economy in a bad way it's easy to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Sidmouth community then it is in reality shocking figures are going down. Surely we all want our Sidmouth to be a wonderful location to live, where people get along, they assist each other in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Sidmouth church and plea for change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your neighborhood chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because hardly anybody desires to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, lowly and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, loads of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-gay words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet space to be - a good spot to cogitate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest gravestone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep kids pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the cemetery.
