Alfreton Church

Alfreton Church in Derbyshire has a lot of churches for separate religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Alfreton is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been sinking for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once per month, however Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the populace.

We think the basis for the decline is just that people do not have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the Earth and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it's easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Alfreton community then it is really astonishing numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Alfreton to be a fantastic location to inhabit, where inhabitants get along, they help each other in times of hardship and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Alfreton church and make a request change, you want to assist, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because hardly a soul desires to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as regional schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, humble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, many people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, considering his anti-homosexual words in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet place to be - a good space to ruminate on the things that are going on in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest headstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a diversion that can keep children smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
