Hawkshead Church

Hawkshead Church in Cumbria has a lot of churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Hawkshead is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been tumbling for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population attending at least once every month, still Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the population.

We think the cause for the decline is just that people do not have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the planet and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it's straightforward to understand peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the fundamental values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you think on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Hawkshead community then it is actually astonishing numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Hawkshead to be a fantastic spot to be alive, where individuals get along, they assist one another in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Hawkshead church and plea for change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because nobody desires to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, impoverished and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, countless people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-homosexual language in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet space to be - a good place to contemplate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest gravestone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a diversion that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
