Aughnacloy Church

Aughnacloy Church in County Tyrone has several churches for distinctive religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Aughnacloy is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been falling for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the population presiding at least once per month, nevertheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the populace.

We think the rationale for the decline is in simple terms that people don't believe in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the economy in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the fundamental values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you think on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Aughnacloy community then it is really astounding numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Aughnacloy to be a wonderful place to dwell, where individuals get along, they help one another in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Aughnacloy church and make a request change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly anybody wishes to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, humble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, loads of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times quit after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into account his anti-gay words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful spot to be - a good space to reflect on the things that are going on in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep children pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the cemetery.
