Magherafelt Church

Magherafelt Church in County Londonderry has several churches for different religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is regular for a town to have more than one church and Magherafelt is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been dropping for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once every month, notwithstanding Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the rationale for the decline is simply that people do not have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the planet and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is straightforward to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Magherafelt community then it's really extraordinary figures are going down. Surely we all want our Magherafelt to be a great location to be alive, where inhabitants get along, they help one another in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Magherafelt church and pressure for change, you want to help, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wants to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as resident schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, lowly and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, many people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, in view of his anti-gay words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet place to be - a good spot to ruminate on the things that are going on in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest headstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a diversion that can keep kids pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
