Stanley Church

Stanley Church in County Durham has numerous churches for distinctive religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Stanley is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been plummeting for the last fifty years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population attending at least once every month, nevertheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the residents.

We think the reason for the decline is in simple terms that people do not believe in God any more, with violence raging across the planet and the economy in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Stanley community then it is really amazing figures are going down. Surely we all want our Stanley to be a fantastic spot to dwell, where persons get along, they assist one another in times of need and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Stanley church and plea for change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly a soul wishes to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, countless people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-homosexual speech-making in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful spot to be - a good spot to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a diversion that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
