Consett Church

Consett Church in County Durham has several churches for different religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Consett is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been plummeting for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the population attending at least once per month, nonetheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the populace.

We think the grounds for the decline is in simple terms that people do not have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the planet and the economy in a bad way it is straightforward to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you contemplate on all the good things that Churches represent in our Consett community then it's truly remarkable figures are going down. Surely we all want our Consett to be a wonderful place to be alive, where people get along, they help each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Consett church and plea for change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your neighborhood chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody desires to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as regional schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, impoverished and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, loads of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently walked out after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-gay rhetoric in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet space to be - a good place to reflect on the things that are going on in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep children smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
