Newtownards Church

Newtownards Church in County Down has many churches for various religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Newtownards is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been sinking for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the populace attending at least once per month, in spite of everything Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the basis for the decline is just that people don't have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the planet and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it's straightforward to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the central values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches represent in our Newtownards community then it's truly astounding figures are going down. Surely we all want our Newtownards to be a wonderful spot to be alive, where individuals get along, they assist each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Newtownards church and demand change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly anybody wishes to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, numerous people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times quit after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-homosexual rhetoric in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet position to be - a good place to cogitate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a diversion that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
