Polperro Church

Polperro Church in Cornwall has numerous churches for various religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is regular for a town to have more than one church and Polperro is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been sinking for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once per month, notwithstanding Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the explanation for the decline is just that people do not have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the world and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it's easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you contemplate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Polperro community then it is really shocking figures are going down. Surely we all want our Polperro to be a wonderful location to dwell, where individuals get along, they assist each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Polperro church and make a request change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because hardly anybody desires to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as native schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, lowly and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, numerous people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-gay language in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful spot to be - a good spot to cogitate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest headstone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep children smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
