Mevagissey Church

Mevagissey Church in Cornwall has numerous churches for assorted religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Mevagissey is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been falling for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the populace attending at least once every month, however Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the rationale for the decline is in basic terms that people don't have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it's easy to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Mevagissey community then it is truly extraordinary numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Mevagissey to be a good location to live, where people get along, they help each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Mevagissey church and pressure for change, you want to help, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because hardly anybody wishes to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, many people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, in view of his anti-gay language in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful position to be - a good spot to reflect on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest gravestone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep children pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the cemetery.
