Billingham Church

Billingham Church in Cleveland has many churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Billingham is no exception.

Regrettably church attendance has been sinking for the last 50 years in the UK, with 15% of the population attending at least once per month, in spite of everything Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the grounds for the decline is simply that people do not believe in God any more, with violence raging across the world and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you contemplate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Billingham community then it's actually remarkable figures are going down. Surely we all want our Billingham to be a wonderful location to inhabit, where persons get along, they assist each other in times of need and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Billingham church and make a request change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because nobody wants to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, poor and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, numerous people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-gay speech-making in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet space to be - a good spot to ruminate on the things that are going on in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep kids pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
