Gordon Church

Gordon Church in Berwickshire has many churches for assorted religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is regular for a town to have more than one church and Gordon is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been tumbling for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population attending at least once per month, nevertheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the basis for the decline is in simple terms that people don't have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the world and the economy in a bad way it is easy to understand peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you contemplate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Gordon community then it's really amazing figures are going down. Surely we all want our Gordon to be a wonderful place to be alive, where persons get along, they help one another in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Gordon church and make a request change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly anybody wants to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as native schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, meager and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, countless people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times quit after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, in view of his anti-homosexual rhetoric in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful space to be - a good space to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that's a diversion that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
