Thornbury Church

Thornbury Church in Avon has many churches for different religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Thornbury is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been tumbling for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once per month, still Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the population.

We think the explanation for the decline is in basic terms that people do not have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the Earth and the economy in a bad way it's easy to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the fundamental values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Thornbury community then it's really shocking numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Thornbury to be a wonderful location to live, where individuals get along, they help one another in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Thornbury church and make a request change, you want to help, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your neighborhood chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly anybody desires to work to a superior goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as native schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, feeble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, various people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, bearing in mind his anti-gay words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful position to be - a good space to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that is a game that can keep kids amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
