Congresbury Church

Congresbury Church in Avon has various churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Congresbury is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been tumbling for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the population presiding at least once every month, nonetheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the grounds for the decline is in basic terms that people do not have faith in God any more, with wars raging across the Earth and the economy in a bad way it is straightforward to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our judgment the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the fundamental values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches represent in our Congresbury community then it is actually amazing numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Congresbury to be a splendid location to live, where inhabitants get along, they help each other in times of hardship and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Congresbury church and plea for change, you want to help, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your community chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because hardly anybody wishes to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let's get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have collaborated with other organisations such as regional schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, feeble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, scores of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-gay words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet place to be - a good place to reflect on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest tombstone..i.e. the earliest date, that is a diversion that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
