Cairndow Church

Cairndow Church in Argyll has several churches for separate religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is frequent for a town to have more than one church and Cairndow is no exception.

Alas church attendance has been sinking for the last fifty years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace attending at least once per month, in spite of everything Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the people.

We think the explanation for the decline is in basic terms that people don't have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the planet and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you reflect on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Cairndow community then it's truly astounding figures are going down. Surely we all want our Cairndow to be a great location to inhabit, where people get along, they help one another in times of need and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Cairndow church and demand change, you want to assist, and you think it is only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because nobody wants to work to a greater goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, impoverished and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, numerous people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, considering his anti-homosexual words in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful space to be - a good space to contemplate on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep kids smiling for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the graveyard.
